<p>In this day and age, we want everything to happen fast, if not instantly, Fast Foods, Fast Service, Fast Internet, Fast Solutions to just about any problem, so why not Fast Weight Loss?</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Is it possible to lose a lot of weight quickly?</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Yes.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Is it a great idea?</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>I don’t think so.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>What is it that makes us want to lose weight?  For me, it is the fact that I don’t like the way I look and feel when I am overweight.  What makes me look so lumpy and ugly – body fat?</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>So let’s look at what happens when a person loses weight very fast.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>When you try to lose more than about 1kg a week, the major part of the weight lost, is made up of water and muscle and that does nothing to make you look or feel any better, actually it slows down your metabolism and we all know that a slow metabolism means that we gain weight easily.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Perhaps, you’re one of those people who really don’t eat much, but still manage to gain weight.  You probably do not have a lot of muscle to begin with and a quick loss of weight means that you will lose even more (muscle) – making it easier to put on all the weight you’ve just lost, because your metabolism is even slower.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Let’s face it – more muscle does certainly look better.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>So, if you need to lose weight quickly for an occasion of some sort, then go for the “quick fix”, but if you are looking for a more permanent solution, one where you will look and feel much better and keep your metabolism burning at a steady rate, then you should aim at losing weight at a much slower rate!</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>It certainly is easier to lose one kilogram a week than trying to lose three kilo’s a week.  To start off make small changes in the way you eat, drink and exercise, this can make such a difference, like drinking more water instead of sodas, playing outside with the children, instead of watching them play (they will love that), taking the dog out for a walk, cooking a meal at home, instead of buying that fat soaked fry-up or pizza from the drive-thru. If you have to snack make popcorn and have that instead of crisps and have a handful – not a bowlful!  Have fruit available instead of chocolates and sweets.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The thing is, if you don’t do something, nothing will happen, so start off slowly and soon you will be feeling fitter and more positive about being active perhaps even going for walks or joining a fun exercise program suited to you.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Losing weight slowly becomes part of your lifestyle and you will be able to follow through, not just suffer for a few weeks and go back to your old habits and in so doing pick up more weight than you lost because your metabolism has slowed even more.</p>

<p>One word of caution: Take these supplements only as directed. Taking too many can leave you dehydrated or overstimulate your heart.</p>
<p><strong>#2: Carb Blockers</strong></p>
<p>Carbs act like sugar in our bodies. Too many carbs can lead to insulin resistance, which can increase the storage of body fat. Carb blockers keep us from ingesting so many carbs, reducing insulin resistance and promoting fat loss.</p>
<p>Carb blockers use two main ingredients to accomplish this: Green tea, which has been shown to interfere with the transformation of carbs into blood glucose, and white kidney beans, which are thought to have a similar effect.</p>
<p>As with thermogenics, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence on both sides of the carb blocker debate. Some insist that the products work, while others maintain that you could achieve better effects by eating fewer carbs.</p>
<p>The jury is still out, with scientific data limited to a handful of animal tests. Still, if you&#8217;re concerned about absorbing too many carbs, carb blockers might be helpful.</p>
<p><strong>#3: Thyroid Stimulators</strong></p>
<p>Our thyroids act as regulators for our metabolism. When they grow sluggish due to injury or illness, our fat metabolism also slows down. Some supplements were designed to stimulate the thyroid gland and speed up fat metabolism.</p>
<p>Such supplements typically contain tyrosine, manganese, selenium, and guggul. There is a hotly contested study showing that guggul supplementation results in more weight loss than diet and exercise alone.</p>
<p>Before you take a thyroid enhancer, go see the doctor to have your thyroid tested. Millions of people suffer from an underactive thyroid. If you&#8217;re one of them, a prescription medication will work better than a supplement.</p>
<p><strong>#4: Cortisol Reducers</strong></p>
<p>When our bodies are stressed (and whose body isn&#8217;t these days?), they produce a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol encourages our bodies to preserve themselves. One way they do this is by storing fat, particularly in the abdominal region.</p>
<p>Cortisol blockers usually contain bitter orange peel extract, a type of herbal ephedra. Evidence is sparse; some dieters feel that cortisol blockers help them lose weight. Most experts doubt the efficacy of cortisol blockers.</p>
<p>If you have a heart condition, or if you&#8217;re currently taking other medications, seek a doctor&#8217;s advice before taking a cortisol blocker. They have been linked to cardiac events in otherwise healthy people.</p>
<p><strong>#5: Herbs &amp; Vitamins</strong></p>
<p>Other herbs and vitamins are credited with boosting the body&#8217;s fat-burning metabolism. These include, ginger, cayenne pepper, B vitamins, Vitamin C, calcium, and many others.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;d like to test their effect on your weight loss, look for a multivitamin that contains some or all of those ingredients. Ginger and cayenne pepper can easily be added to the meals you cook, and low-fat dairy products are rich in calcium.</p>
