3 Things They Will Never Tell You About Fat Loss

Friday, December 4th, 2009

You see them at every check-out lane in the supermarket, or by the magazine rack, weight loss tips, and the new fantastic diet that is guaranteed to make you lose weight over night.

Deep down however, we all know, these diets, if you can call them that are nothing but fads, which will not be effective long term solutions for fat loss.

But what if I told you there were 3 things you can do today, things that didn’t require you to change your whole life, or spend a ton of money buying special diet foods, that will not only allow you to lose fat safely, but without reeking havoc on your metabolism and ruining your health in the process. And almost more importantly will help you keep the fat you lose off, permanently.

I’m not going to try and fool you and say that the three things I will be discussing are the end all/be all of fat loss however they are a good place to start. If you would like more info I would suggest checking out a fantastic fat loss ebook called Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle, by Tom Venuto, you can find out more about it by searching for it in your favorite search engine.

The first thing they will never tell you about fat loss is that when you combine too much fat and carbohydrates in one meal, it doesn’t matter if you ate a fast food meal or a healthy one. This combination can lead to high levels of blood fats and a big spike in your insulin levels, which is not good if you want to lose fat or be healthy.

Ideally you should aim to not go over 10-12 grams of carbs or fat at the same meal. So for example, a boiled skinless chicken breast and an apple would be a good example of a protein and carb meal, and if we use the same boiled skinless chicken breast but instead of the apple we substitute say a handful of nuts, this would be an example of a protein and fat meal.

You don’t have to be fanatical about it, I’ll admit I am not, but when I’m at home and am preparing my own meals, I try to follow the above guideline.

The second thing they will never tell you is that aerobics are NOT the best way to lose fat. Why? Well, simply because aerobics are not going to build you much muscle, and it is muscle that burns calories and changes how you look.

The one thing that happens to most people is this, they go on a diet and 10 or 20 pounds later, they see themselves in the mirror. But guess what, they still are soft; all they did was create a smaller version of their former selves. If you want to lose fat and really look good, weight training is the way to go.

The third thing they will never tell you about weight loss is that the body burns calories on a 24 hour cycle, so eating before bed is not going to make you fat.

Yes, it is true, if you eat a whole pizza before bed you will gain fat; however, if for some reason you need to eat your normal dinner later than normal, it is not going to make you gain fat.

I once knew a fellow who brought the carts back into the supermarket. That fellow worked like crazy out there, hour after hour pushing in 20 or more carts at a shot.

One day I asked him what he ate that kept him going for all those hours, you know what he told me, usually when he got home he would eat half a coffee cake and then go to bed-and this was at like 12 O’clock at night, and this man never gained an ounce.

Yes, this is an extreme example, but I just wanted to illustrate the point that the body does not, automatically turn what you eat late at night into fat.

I hope the above three tips will help you achieve all of your fitness and fat loss goals.

Phentermine, Diet Doctors Weight-loss Secrets.. And How They Keep Weight Off

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

As part of my job, I am in daily contact with health professional, doctors, dieticians etc… One thing has always astounded me about them is the change of persona they go through depending on the circumstances of the moment.

So when a patient sees his/her doctor, the latter adopts a position of remote authority in which he/she appears to have so much knowledge about just about everything that it would be unwise to question them on anything. And patients invariably react accordingly.

On another day, in different circumstance, a question about how to lose fat put to a doctor by another doctor for example may elicit yet a different response or persona based on the doctor to doctor relationship.

The other day, I found myself in the presence of doctors and their nurses during a dinner organized by a pharmaceutical company. As the caterers started to serve the deserts, I could not help commenting that a cheese cake was not the most nutrition food served at a doctor’s table during a health related function.

Here is the advice these doctors as a whole were following for themselves:

They were all in agreement when saying that they consume moderate amounts of protein and fat, as well as being selective about the carbohydrate they eat. Protein is the most essential food that our body requires and so they ate at least 10 to 20 ounces of protein per day. They found their protein in lean red meat, fish, poultry, low-fat cheese, eggs and tofu.

They kept their carbohydrate intake to a minimum, 60 to 80 grams daily so as not to have an adverse impact on insulin levels. They found these carbohydrates in a wide variety of fruits and vegetable

They take multivitamin to ensure they get all of the nutrients they daily food might miss.

And of course, they exercise regularly, by way of high impact aerobic and resistance training, four times a week for one hour.

As a side note, I was struck that 3 of the doctors had complete different views on the amount of carbohydrate they themselves felt they needed, with one doctor saying that he had mostly carbohydrate, consisting mostly of whole grains (such as breads, pasta and rice), root vegetable (potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, turnips), beans peas and lentils and green and yellow vegetable, whilst he limited the consumption of fruits because of their high sugar content.

At the end of the conversation, I could not help asking them what they thought about Phentermine. This question had some interesting and juicy responses. A couple of doctors recalled the days of the fen-phen diets when they made quite a living prescribing the then “ultimate” diet pill. One of them didn’t even know that Phentermine was FDA approved whilst another admitted that she had taken phentermine herself as diet supplement pill in order to help lose weight and that she would gladly do it again.

So here you have it.. When it comes to diets, phentermine might be the catalyst you need in your own battle to lose weight.

Fat Loss And Weight Loss-Do They Mean It?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Health is the wealth. Due to development in the field of science, we have simplified our day-to-day work with the help of machines. The victim here is our health. Energy spent is less as we can do strenuous tasks by just pressing the button. But we never tried to reduce the intake. This results in excess energy intake. This excess energy is stored in the body in the form of fat. Hence our weight increases so also the susceptibility to various life threatening ailments. If you want remain healthy and live longer fat loss [weight loss] is the only remedy.

Our body is composed of water, muscle, bone and other organs. Besides this fat is the other important component of the body. The body fat can be classified as fat that is essential and fat that is for storage. Essential fat as the name suggests is most important component of the body and these fats can be seen in muscles, central nervous system, bone marrow and other organs like liver and kidney.

The excess energy intake is converted in to fat and stored in the body as storage fat. Storage fats can be seen under the skin, in the muscle and in specific areas of the body. It is not bad to have some quantity of storage fat in the body. The storage fat functions like insulator [conserves the body temperature], and serves as a source of energy at the time of the poor intake. We must lose this excess fat. This kind of fat loss is must for the healthy normal functioning of the body as we discussed already. While trying for fat loss we should keep in mind that neither too much fat nor too little fat is healthy.

Many people who want to reduce their weight may think why should we know about the body fat? And why should we calculate the body fat? The reason for measuring the body fat is that it is the realistic measurement of fitness of our body. Fat loss is nothing but weight loss. Body mass index is an indicator of the health and fitness of the body. The big disadvantage of the body mass index is that it may conclude that you are overweight. But your body fat may be normal. When the body fat is normal, your health is perfect though you are overweight. Hence body fat calculation is the best method to assess your fitness.

Like the quantity of the fat, the distribution of the fat is also important factor in determining the fitness of the body. Extra fat stored in the hip region is more harm full than the fat stored in buttocks and thighs. Hence fat loss from the hip region is highly preferable. In most cases if the person loses weight by following a perfect, safe, risk free weight loss or fat loss program, he will lose only body fat not the muscle. At times along with fat loss, some quantity of the muscle also will be lost. However the fat loss will be much more than the muscle loss, which is highly desirable. Some people due urgency and ignorance may follow bad diet and wrong diet pills to reduce weight. Those people will be losing body water instead of body fat. As the result there will not be any fat loss, which is of no use as far as the health and fitness of the person concerned.

Natural Appetite Suppressants – Are They Safe?

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

Many herbal appetite suppressants have a long history of use and of claimed health benefits. An herb, or botanical, is a plant or part of a plant that is used for its scent, flavor, and/or therapeutic properties. Although they are so-called ‘natural’, herbal products are not necessarily safe or without harmful effects. They may come from plants, but many plants are considered harmful and poisonous.

Unlike prescription appetite suppressants, the majority herbal products are not tested to certify their safety before their marketing. Some herbal supplements have been found contaminated with metals, unlabeled prescription drugs, microorganisms or other substances. Here is where your common sense come in use – order herbal supplements only from renowned and well established manufacturers.
